My Attendance at BioFIT 2025: Regulatory Strategy and Exit Strategy in Animal Health

I attended the 11th edition of the Animal Health Research Meetings (RESA), organised by the SIMV as part of BioFIT 2025 in Strasbourg. A rich event, with three sessions dedicated to animal health covering both concrete and strategic questions.

Among the highlights: a conference by Guerric Radière (Lamina Partners) on exit strategies for animal health startups where Louise Grubb (TriviumVet) made it clear that investors are closely monitoring how well regulatory impacts are managed and the clarity of the regulatory pathway before investing. This sends a strong signal to companies developing animal health products: the regulatory aspect must be addressed at an early stage, and effective management of it is a key factor in attracting investment.

Four projects were also presented to a panel following the SIMV’s call for projects: innovations ranging from a new therapeutic target for treating diabetes in pets to oral vaccines for livestock, and including iPS stem cells for the treatment of degenerative diseases in horses.

These exchanges with the jury were revealing: project developers need to come prepared to address questions that go far beyond the technology — rationale behind the choice of target species and clinical need, development and commercialisation costs, positioning versus existing solutions. These are topics that align with what I address as part of a regulatory challenge aimed at securing a development roadmap.
